What is the Shade Project?
The SHADE Diabetes project is a multi-site research study on how stress and life experiences impact the health and well-being of people with type 2 diabetes. Diabetes is becoming more common locally and nationally. It is therefore important that we try to understand how factors such as stress and more general everyday tasks relate to health and well-being. Participants in our study contribute to our understanding of diabetes by sharing their experiences as experts on the subject of living with diabetes.

What would I do?
Participants in the study visit the research office in Syracuse to:
• Answer surveys about living with diabetes and general well-being
• Write about life experiences
• Complete memory exercises on a computer
• Receive health evaluations of glucose control (at no cost)
Participation in this project lasts a total of 16 months. Participation in the study is most involved during the first month, and then office visits are limited to one visit every 2 months. All information collected in the SHADE project is completely confidential!
We know that you are busy! Each person receives $220 dollars over the course of the study as compensation for his or her time.
