Family Research and Asthma Project II
Project Description:
This project aims to examine family factors that promote medical adherence and reduce anxiety in children with asthma. 225 families will participate in the project conducted over a period of five years. The project involves a laboratory visit consisting of parent and child interviews, pediatric pulmonary function tests, completing self report questionnaires, and engaging in a parent-child interaction task. During a home visit, all family members are videotaped during a typical mealtime. For a period of six weeks, adherence to prescribed medication is collected either through electronic recording via a computer chip or by telephone interviews. Sixty families will be followed for up to three years to examine changes in family routines and medication use in relation to child mental health.
