Dr. Prabha S. Chandra, Principal Investigator


Dr. Prabha S. completed her bachelor's degree in medicine ( M.B.B.S.) from the Lady Hardinge Medical College, New Delhi, India in 1984 & her master's degree in Psychiatry from NIMHANS, Bangalore in 1987. She is an Assistant Professor of Psychiatry at the Dept. of Psychiatry, NIMHANS.

She has been trained as a National Trainer by WHO and NACO for HIV/AIDS case management and counselling at the Mulago Hospital, Kampala, Uganda and has served as a Temporary Advisor at the WHO, Geneva for Quality of Life issues in HIV/AIDS and to UNAIDS on neurocognitive disorders in HIV.

Dr. Chandra was awarded the Silver Jubilee award for the Best Outgoing Student in Psychiatry in 1987 and has received the Poona Psychiatry Award 1 in 1995 and in 1997 for the best published papers in that year awarded by the Indian Psychiatry Society. She has also received the Young Investigator Award in 1997 awarded by the Multinational Association for Supportive Care in Cancer. She also delivered the Tilak Venkoba Rao Oration Award for Young Scientists awarded by the Indian Psychiatric Society for the year 2000.

She is a member of several National and International Organisations and an Executive member of the Women's Section of the World Psychiatric Association. She is a member of the Advisory group on Behavioral Research in HIV of the Indian Council of Medical Research and a member of the Technical Resource Group on Counselling in HIV nominated by the Government of India.

She has nearly 65 publications and has edited several books. She is also the editor of the Indian Journal of Palliative Care.
